What did you
learn about individuality and creativity from Marian? How do you see this fitting into your development as a designer? As we begin the semester, what methods can you use to foster your own creativity in your projects? How have you changed as a designer thus far in your IDD classes? Where do you hope to improve?
Marian talked about how it is important to make sure that your
work satisfies your ego and satisfies to client. It is important that you are designing
something that you like that is unique to your style but also something that
the client can use and likes as well. She talks about how she used things that
you would not normally think a designer would use and use it to make a really
interesting design that people look at and are in awe of. This is fitting into my development as a designer because it is
important to create designs that are not only informative but also something
that is nice to look at.
Some methods I can use to foster creativity are sketching and getting inspiration. Sketching is really important when designing because if you go right to a computer there might be something you are thinking of and cannot do right away when sitting in front of the computer. If you sketch first and then try to figure out how to do it on the computer it is easier to develop your ideas. Finding inspiration is also really important when thinking of new design for a new project. A good way to get inspiration is from researching on the computer. There are so many designs that are on the Internet and by looking at them you might get inspired to create your own unique designs.
When I started the IDD classes as a freshman I always went right to the computer to start designing but as I have taken different classes I have learned to start all design by sketching and researching. This way I am not stuck when I sit down to start designing. This has really helped my designs become more unique and creative. I hope to become more creative in my work and be able to come up with creative design on my own. I feel like I am getting better at this but there is still a lot of improving I can do.
